Emmerdale bad boy Robert Sugden is set to return to the Yorkshire village this Autumn, however he will be played by a new actor.

Robert will make his comeback in late October having originally left the village in 2001. The role of Robert Sugden was previously played by Karl Davies, but the role will now be taken over by newcomer Ryan Hawley.

However, Robert's return is set to cause trouble for his brother and old adversary Andy (played by Kelvin Fletcher).

As fans of the ITV soap will know, Robert and his adopted brother Andy have always been at loggerheads. While Andy never forgave Robert for having an affair with his fiancée Katie, Robert never coped with feeling that Andy was the most cherished son.

"I am absolutely over the moon to be joining the show," said Ryan. "Playing such an interesting character with a complicated history in the village is so much fun, especially as my family are all big Emmerdale fans. I can't say much about what's going to happen but I am delighted to be a part of it."

Robert's return is set to reignite old rivalries, and with Andy and Katie planning their wedding day after recently rekindling their love, we predict plenty of fireworks!

Speaking about the return of an iconic character, Kate Oates, Emmerdale's series producer said: "Robert Sugden's life has moved on in many ways... but those ingrained feelings about his father, Andy, Katie, and the village where he grew up are sure to find an explosive outlet."
