Dr Brian Weiner says it's possible to lose up to 12lbs a year just by having icy food and drinks every day. It sounds too good to be true, but the body uses up calories melting the ice you eat.
According to Dr Weiner, having one litre of ice a day burns about 160 extra calories. You'd need to power walk for a mile to burn as many calories through exercise!
Dr Weiner came up with his theory when he ditched his ice cream habit and switched to sorbets and crushed ice drinks instead. He says he shed pounds in weeks.
Other research supports the theory that cold can help you slim. A study in Sydney found men burned calories 40 per cent faster when they slept in chilly rooms.
