In a statement, the 28-year-old said: "I've been a huge fan of The X Factor since day one and have watched every series religiously, so to be the new host of The Xtra Factor in its most exciting year EVER, is what dreams are made of.

"I'll be asking the judges the questions that people at home are screaming at their TVs - and you'd better believe I'm going in with a bang! I just can't wait to get on the road now and meet the auditionees!"

Sarah-Jane, 28, first announced the news via Twitter this morning, saying she was thrilled to have been given the opportunity.

She tweeted: "Morning! Really thrilled to say that I'll be the new host of #XtraFactor this year!!!! Thanks to the X team for seeing something in me!"

The DJ also paid tribute to Caroline Flack, who has quit Xtra Factor after three years as co-host.

"Massive respect goes out to @carolineflack1 who's an amazing broadcaster and delivered 3 years of a brilliant series #girlpower."

Caroline announced her departure in an Instagram post last night (11 June), which read: "After three brilliant years of hosting Xtra Factor it's time to pass the baton. It's been incredible and I'll never forget it."

Joking about an Xtra Factor skit of the past, she added: "How can I when I'm married to Louis Walsh? It's all he ever talks about at home. I wish the new team all the best and look forward to watching the new series."

Sarah-Jane will replace Caroline Flack, who has quit after three years.

Caroline hosted the last series of Xtra Factor alongside comedian Matt Richardson, who was brought in to replace Olly.

Matt - who will also not return this year - tweeted his congratulations to Sarah-Jane today, saying: "Major Congrats to @DJSarahJane on xtra, I shall remember it well whilst writing my new tour. Advice: Judges Houses is not a holiday (it is)!"

Meanwhile, it seems Sarah-Jane will have at least one familiar face at X Factor this year: she's already friends with Louis Walsh! They were pictured together walking arm in arm in London last month.

Louis returns to the judging panel for his eleventh year in a row. Viewers will also see the return of Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole following their departure from the show in 2011. Spice Girl Mel B will make up the judging quartet.

X Factor returns for its eleventh series later this year.
