BBC bosses have said that James turned down the chance to appear on the next series, due to start in September.

The channel states that James, 36, was offered a smaller role on the show... Instead of being paired up with a celebrity, he was instead asked to appear in show specials such as the Children In Need edition.

But James was quick to put his own opinion forward after the BBC released their official statement.

He tweeted: "WELL TWEEPS… Yes it's true I WILL NOT be returning to 'BURN THE FLOOR'…. Sorry, I mean 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

"However do not believe everything the BBC have written in their statement."

Well, we're intrigued...

His exit comes after eight years on Strictly, where he's trained the likes of Vanessa Feltz and Denise Van Outen.

Meanwhile, hunky Russian Artem Chigvintsev, 31, is staying in the US after his recent stint on the American version of the show.

Artem won the eighth series of SCD in 2010 with former EastEnders actress and now girlfriend Kara Tointon. He also reached the final in December partnering Natalie Gumede.

Today (1 June), he tweeted a message of thanks to his fans, saying: "I want to say thank you to all my followers for your endless support I will miss SCD,UK very very much let's hope my visa situation will change in the future that is the reason I decide to stay in US to sort my citizenship."

Anya Garnis, 32, will also not return to dance with a celebrity, but will remain part of the choreography team.

World ballroom dance champion Joanne Clifton, whose brother Kevin already dances on the show, has now joined the line-up. It is the first time siblings will appear together on the show.

Irish-born Tristan MacManus is also new. He partnered Pamela Anderson on Dancing With The Stars in America.

Eight female and seven male professional dancers will feature in the 2014 series, with Natalie Lowe returning after withdrawing last year due to injury.

This year's series will be co-presented by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly after Sir Bruce Forsyth stepped down in April.
