The actress, who plays Katy Armstrong, confirmed via Twitter on Sunday night (27 April) that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year.
"Thank you for all your lovely messages regarding me leaving Coronation Street! Obviously it will be a very emotional time for me! But how exciting! I can't wait to get back out there and see what I can do!" she wrote.
"This is only the beginning of so much more for me!"
Georgia added that her exit won't come until the end of the year, assuring fans: "So lots more Katy to come. I'm sure!"
In a statement, she added: "I am very excited about what the future holds, whilst I will be sorry to say goodbye to Weatherfield I am looking forward to the challenge of new roles.
"Having worked on other dramas such as Grange Hill and This Is England before I joined the cast I always knew that I would want to try other roles again in the future. I am hugely grateful for the opportunities Coronation Street has given me and I am very excited about my exit storyline."
Fans of Georgia's character shouldn't despair entirely, however, as the door has been left open for her return. Producer Stuart Blackburn has said Katy will not be killed off.
"Georgia is a talented actress who has been a great asset to the show. The decision to write out the character of Katy Armstrong is based on storyline discussions and will be one of the consequences of the current drama involving the Windass/Armstrong clan.
"Katy will not be killed off and the door will be left open for a possible return. We wish Georgia every success with her future career."
The 23-year-old has played young mum Katy for four years. Her exit comes shortly after fellow pin-up Michelle Keegan quit the soap to focus on other projects.
