Hilary Duff is returning to TV!

Former Lizzie McGuire favourite Hilary will star in a brand new comedy series called Younger, which is the latest project from Sex and the City creator Darren Star.

Hilary + SATC = good combination!

US network TV Land has ordered twelve episodes of the half-hour comedy, which is about a newly-single 40-something mum called Liza, who is struggling to get back into the workplace. After meeting a man at a bar who mistakes her for a younger woman, she decides to undergo a makeover and pretend she's a twenty-something in order to land a job.

At her new workplace she befriends Hilary, who is none the wiser – and Liza wants to keep it that way!

Hilary is clearly thrilled to be returning to the small screen, tweeting: "Have to say woke up this morning and feel soo excited to be back on TV! Such exciting news @YoungerTV!! On @TVLand got picked up!"

The 26-year-old shot to fame as the titular character in Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire, which ran from 2001 until 2004. Movie roles have included Cheaper By The Dozen, A Cinderella Story and The Perfect Man.

Lately, however, the star has been away from the cameras, looking after son Luca Cruz and working on her music comeback.

TV and music comebacks at once? It's definitely a good time for Hilary fans!

Hilary announced in March that she'd signed a brand new record deal, paving the way for her first album release since 2007's Dignity.

Teasing her new music in December, she told Toronto Sun: "There's some EDM influence. And then some songs kind of like indie and earthy. I don't know, that sounds really weird. It's all over the map. Some songs have really heavy piano. Some have like funky weird tinkering sounds."
