The harsh winter tends to leave our skin drier than usual and with summer just around the corner, we're desperate to banish dry skin before we get our pins out.

But if you've tried every product under the sun and still had no luck – fear not. We've had a chat with Dr Phil Hammond, who shared his expert tips for getting softer skin.

"Skin can get dry if you overuse soap, shampoo or bubble bath, so have a break from these and add a few drops of greasy lotion, such as emulsifying oil, to bath water.

"Your chemist will be able to recommend such a lotion and also a moisturiser that is fairly cheap that you can put on lots of times a day.

"You shouldn't have to spend a fortune on posh cosmetics to treat dry skin. It's also worth making sure you don't get dehydrated or sunburnt."
