Sunday nights aren't the same without a good old period drama to watch and The Crimson Field starting tonight fills the gap just nicely.

Suranne Jones, Oona Chaplin and Hermione Norris lead the cast as we follow the lives of a team of doctors, nurses and women volunteers working together in a tented field hospital in the trenches of World War One.

The Crimson Field, Sun 6 April

It's a daily battle to patch the men up and keep the war going, and with volunteers desperately needed, the hospital can't turn anyone away - even if they're set to cause a stir.

Three new volunteer nurses turn up and on their first day it soon becomes clear the training couldn't have prepared them for the reality of working near the front line. Will the arrival of modern-thinking Sister Joan Livesey be just what the doctor ordered?
