Cheryl Cole set Instagram alight when she confirmed her return to the X Factor judging panel late on Monday night.

Now, the former Girls Aloud star has released a statement expressing just how thrilled she is to be teaming up with Simon Cowell again.

"I'm very happy and excited to be returning to the X Factor. I'm inspired and ready to find new talent and potential popstars," she said.

"It's going to be a fun series."

Well, fingers crossed that is true!

Cheryl has had success at finding winners in the past, mentoring Alexandra Burke to victory in 2008 and then scoring a win the following year with Joe McElderry.

She left X Factor in 2011 to join the US version of the show alongside Simon, but was rather unceremoniously axed just a few days into her new job.

Reports at the time suggested there was concern US audiences might not understand her Geordie accent.

Cheryl did later return to X Factor in the UK briefly, making a guest appearance at judge Gary Barlow's judges' houses in 2012, which was filmed at Boughton House estate in Northants.

Her firing from the US show had caused a temporary rift between her and Simon but now they're back to being friends. Or should be say frenemies? Cheryl confirmed her return to X Factor by sharing a photo to Instagram showing her pretending to wring Simon's neck.

We expect fireworks!

Simon, meanwhile, has reiterated how thrilled he is to have Cheryl on board.

"The last time we worked together in the UK was incredible and produced some really successful artists. Obviously the plan is to do the same again... so it's back to work!"

There's no word yet on who will make up the rest of the judging panel for the eleventh series, which begins later this year.

Series ten judges Sharon Osbourne and Gary Barlow have both left to focus on other projects, while it's widely reported Nicole Scherzinger has done the same. She has not confirmed it herself, but Simon hinted at her exit when he thanked her via Twitter for her work on the show.

Louis Walsh, meanwhile, originally said he'd be leaving, then suggested he'd be back if Simon is back. Well, Simon is back, so does that mean the return of everyone's favourite Irish judge too?!
