The actor, who last appeared on the primetime soap in 2008, will start filming in February as the estranged son of Shirley Carter (played by Linda Henry).
Deano left Walford after his stint in prison, but Shirley currently thinks her son is working in a bar in Australia.
However, there'll soon be a shock in store for Shirley when her father Stan (Timothy West), informs her that Deano now goes by the name of Dean, and is also closer to home than she thinks.
Confirming the news and thanking fans, Matt said this morning: "Thank you for the kind messages. Yes it's true, I will be heading back to the square in Feb. @dominictc is very good at his job. #excitingtimes."
Executive producer, Dominic Treadwell, added: "Welcome back to Walford, @matt_diangelo - we are going to have fun..."
Matt's return to the soap comes a month after show bosses moved in the Carter family, led by actor Danny Dyer, who plays Shirley's brother, Mick.
Matt, who has also starred in Hustle, Borgia and Death in Paradise, came runner-up in the fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2007.
