The actress will be reprising her soap star role when filming begins in February and she is already eager to sink her teeth into the turbulent new storyline.
Speaking about her return, 28-year-old Verity said: "I'm thrilled to be re-joining the wonderful Emmerdale team. The emotional journey my character is set to experience will be wonderfully challenging to play, and of course working with some of my oldest friends is going to be a real treat!''
And it sounds like the residents of the Yorkshire Dales should prepare for Donna to cause a stir.
Being the ex-wife of everyone's favourite pub chef Marlon Dingle (played by Mark Charnock) no doubt comes with its fair share of baggage.
Plus, how will she take the news of Marlon now being engaged to new fiancée Laurel Thomas (played by Charlotte Bellamy)?
But there is said to be more to Donna's return than meets the eye.
Emmerdale series producer, Kate Oates can't wait to see what happens when the feisty character makes her way back to the Dales.
"I'm delighted to welcome Verity back to the show," she said. "Donna left under a real cloud with Marlon - so her return should ruffle some serious feathers in the village. I'm really excited to see the impact she has on the friends and family she left behind!''
Since leaving Emmerdale in 2009, Verity made her West End debut as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray and has appeared in the stage production of The Sound Of Music.
