X Factor's latest eliminee Abi Alton has urged fans not to give fellow contestant Sam Callahan a hard time.

Abi was sent home from the ITV show last night after falling into the bottom two alongside Hannah Barrett, while Sam was deemed safe for another week despite the judges and some viewers thinking he isn't as strong a singer.

Abi was in tears when she was eliminated last night.

But taking to Twitter after her elimination, Abi said: "Don't give Sam a hard time. He is lovely and he is there because people voted and want him there. #realpeople #realfeelings."

Sam, who has more than 200,000 followers on Twitter, replied: "Thanks Abi, love you loads man! See you on the other side."

He had earlier tweeted: "Feeling on top of the world! Another week out the way! Gonna miss ‪@abialton."

Sam Callahan is a fan favourite.

The singer may be on the receiving end of critique from the judges but he has plenty of fans urging him on – including TOWIE stars Gemma Collins and Jessica Wright.

Gemma tweeted a picture of herself and Jess with Sam this morning, adding the caption: "Voting for you babe love Essex."

Sam replied: "Thank you Gemma, local support means a lot to me! ‪#essexandproud."

During last night's Xtra Factor, Sam's mentor Louis Walsh was asked why he thinks Sam has come so far in the competition.

"Sam is in the competition because people are voting for him and obviously girls like him. It's not all about the voice, it's about the personality, the likeability, everything. He works so hard. He's a joy to work with and he's always bubbly and, unlike other contestants, smiling all the time," said Louis.

"There are people selling records in the charts. I won't name them, but he is as good as any of those people."

X Factor continues Saturday night on ITV.
