X Factor contestant Lorna Simpson is "feeling positive", despite being the first contestant voted out of this year's series last night.

Lorna, who was in the Overs category, found herself in the sing-off with fellow Over Shelley Smith after receiving the fewest number of public votes.

Shelley had previously been told during Saturday night's show (12 October) that she would automatically be in the bottom two following the new Flash Vote twist.

The girls sung their hearts out, however Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh chose to send Lorna home. Nicole picked Shelley however, as Sharon Osbourne was mentor to both contestants, she refused to vote - meaning Lorna was sent packing.

Although she fell at the first hurdle, Lorna has admitted that she is not feeling too down in the dumps about it and appeared upbeat on ITV1's Daybreak today.

The 26-year-old said: "I'm feeling quite positive now... but I'm quite like that anyway. I'm just a very positive person."

Lorna was asked by hosts Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly how she felt about Sharon refusing to send one of her two hopefuls home.

"I know Sharon was like that because I know she feels it," Lorna said. "She's just a normal person with that big heart.

"I think anyone would have been like that, like, "I can't do it!'"

Summing up her experience on the ITV1 singing show, Lorna added: "From my very first audition it's always been like, 'Oh my god, I can't believe I'm going through!' it's just been incredible."
