The 16-year-old student from Motherwell has wowed consistently since his first audition, with judges' houses in St Tropez being no different, so it's no surprise he sailed through as one of Louis Walsh's boys for the live shows.
He said: "To be in the live shows is overwhelming and amazing as I never thought I'd be here and I am so thankful to be in this position, I hope I do Louis and everyone proud. I can't wait to perform in front of the nation and show everyone my talent. I just hope make it to the final and do my best."
Nicholas, who has been performing since the age of three, wants to give back to his parents through X Factor, as they have supported his singing dreams and his father has always accompanied him to his local gigs.
"My family are 100% supportive and behind me and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be in this position today because they have sacrificed everything for my dreams."
As the youngest boy in the X Factor house, it's natural Nicholas could feel slightly homesick, but he says Shelley Smith and Sam Bailey, from the overs category, have been looking out for him.
"I get along with Shelley and Sam because they're the most motherly figures in the house; I miss my mum so they help me out with washing and doing my hair!"
X Factor continues Saturday, 12 October on ITV1.
