EastEnders star Jo Joyner has thanked fans for their kind messages after her last episode was aired.

Fans saw Jo's character Tanya Branning leave Albert Square in the back of a taxi on Friday night (28 June) and the emotional scenes left some viewers feeling tearful!

Although the door has been left open for Jo to return, there are no plans for her to make a comeback after Tanya moved to Exeter in Devon in a bid to save her alcoholic daughter Lauren.

Taking to Twitter after the episode aired, Jo said: "Still looking through them - a huge thank you for all your lovely comments tonight, sorry if we made you cry! Thanks for all the support xx"

Last week, Jo admitted that the "relentless misery" in Walford was the reason behind her decision to leave the BBC1 soap.

Much of her character's misery involved Tanya's husband Max Branning - played by Jake Wood.

But although they had a fierce love/hate relationship on-screen, the pair don't have a bad word to say about each other in real life.

Before her final scenes aired, Jake tweeted: "Tissues at the ready - Tanya leaves the show tonight. Been an incredible 7 years @dollyjoyner thank you x #eastenders."

Jo then replied: "Goodbye my love xxx @mrjakedwood See you in the real world soon. #endofanera." Aww!
