Tom is set to mentor the likes of TOWIE's Joey Essex, Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe and Sugababe Jade Ewen on the ITV1 diving show, and he says that being brave is the key to success.
"A lot of people think you have to be super sporty to be a diver," Tom reveals. "Obviously it's important you are fit and healthy, but half the battle is getting over the fear factor.
"It's a very psychological sport. You may be capable physically, but you have to overcome your fear of heights, of pain and of water."
Tom adds: "The main quality you need as a diver is bravery. It's not possible to eliminate fear, but you can learn how to deal with it.
"You're standing high above the water and you have nothing to fall back on but yourself. You are not just learning a new skill, but you are also half naked in front of a live audience of millions."
Tom, who won a bronze in the London 2012 Olympics, has also warned that some of the celebrities could suffer stage fright live on TV.
He says: "Some of them could freeze. Once you're up there, there is no turning back. If you freak out, you freak out on live TV. That's a pretty daunting prospect!"
Tom continues: "I have been diving for 11 years. They have to master it in a limited amount of time. I think you'll see lots of smacks and wallops. It should be a very entertaining show!"
