Expect to see frocks made of meat (we're looking at you Lady Gaga) and more bare bottoms than you can wag a finger at. So without further ado, here are the good, the bad and the downright strangest looks ever.
J.Lo blew everyone else out of the water when she stepped out in this absolutely STUNNING cut-out gown splashed with hundreds and thousands of diamantes last year. Even though Jen's dress left very little to the imagination thanks to the thigh-high split and bralet detail, the singer sashayed down the red carpet with confidence proving that she's definitely still got it. In fact, she could wear the same number to this year's bash and we'd still be just as dazzled.
Lady Gaga drew gasps when she made her debut at the VMA's 2010 in this beyond bizarre dress made out of animal flesh. Yep, ANIMAL FLESH. Along with fishnet tights, the singer donned a meat hat and matching wedges to boot - pretty gross, huh? That said, Gaga did something right, as even four years later we're still talking about it.
Our Reets never fails to turn heads and last year the Body On Me singer sizzled in this slinky silk dress with a very daring split and a plunging neckline. Staying true to her glamorous style, the Brit star matched her shoes and lips to the eye-popping frock which showed off her enviably curvy figure. Slay, girl!
Charli XCX is known for her out-there sartorial choices but this black and yellow zebra print jumpsuit makes her look a little bit like a Flintstones extra. Would we wear it? In a word, no. But it does show off her absolutely perfect gym-honed bod...
Kim Kardashian & Kendall and Kylie Jenner:
The Kardashian-Jenner clan never get it wrong - FACT. Kim ditched her signature midi dresses for this leg-lengthening embellished number while Kylie went all out in this beautiful silk gown. Kendall showed off her credentials as one of the world's most in demand models in all-black co-ords, giving us major style inspo. We can't WAIT to see what the trio don to this year's bash.
We get that Lorde's trademark look is a little gothic and a little bit edgy but we reckon she should have left the velour in the 90s when it came to last year's appearance. In spite of her wardrobe mishap, we're loving her magenta toned lip and flawless complexion combo. At least one good thing came out of this ensemble!
Okay, so this isn't what Beyonce wore on the red carpet last year but we just HAD to comment on her stage getup - look at it sparkle! The singer's leotard was a far cry from the slinky, floor-length gowns she is famous for wearing, but we prefer this fierce look on her. Shake it, Bey.
Nicki Minaj's 2012 VMAs dress gave us a headache when we first laid eyes on it, and looking at it again is bringing on a bit of a migraine. Complete with black lace and red crystal detail resembling a corset, Nicki's jumpsuit prompts us to ask one question - why? And let's not get into the Anaconda star's multicoloured tresses or her police-inspired hat. The word 'Halloween' springs to mind...
We're actually not quite sure what to make of this one. Yes Amber Rose has a KILLER body but do we really need to see that much of it? If this was the underwear as outerwear awards, Amber would have got our vote. Let's leave this frock firmly in 2014.
Tune in to this year's MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday 30 August at 9pm.
