If you've no idea what we're nattering on about when we use the words lob, bronde or blunt-cut then you've probably been hiding under a rock, as they are just a handful of amazing hair trends that shot to the top of the style list last year.

But it's now 2016, and with a fresh new year comes a whole hoard of unique and exciting ways to wear your tresses! Luckily for you guys then, hair-styling genius Zoe Irwin - ghd's UK brand ambassador - is on hand to give us the lowdown on what brand spanking new looks we're soon bound to be lusting after.

Scissors, dye and rhinestones (yep, really) at the ready!

The 'Glunge' look:

What do you get if you merge glamour with a dose of grunge a la X Factor's Rita Ora? Glunge, duh! "This hair trend is based on an undone texture but with a glamorous quality, moving away from the salty, dishevelled beach waves into hair that is more premium and luxe," says Zoe.

"Create this look by blowing out wet hair with ghd's Smooth & Finish Serum, £14.95. Simply apply a few pumps from mid lengths all the way through to the ends ends," advises Zoe. Then, spritz the Mark Hill Extreme Lift Root Spray, £6.49 through your lengths and dry the rest of the hair.

"To perfect the look pass a straightener over hair for optimum shine and smoothness from root to tip, before you wrap hair around the ghd Classic Curl Tong, £120 to loosely to create the effortless waves - brush out, et voila!"

Hippy Doll:

The Hippy Doll trend will be massive, reveals Zoe, especially in summer months and all throughout festival season. Never too early to plan ahead, right?! "The chic, dreadlocks look is easy to create and has a funky edge," says Zoe. "It takes cool inspiration from African cornrow braids but with an added softness."

"This look can be created by twisting small sections of hair using your fingers and simply setting with straighteners – the heat from the styler followed by hairspray will keep the dreadlocks in place but it wont look oily in a 'rave' sense!"

Embellished hair:

"Accessories are key for 2016," mentions Zoe, "and you will see this trend range from young, bright and neon shades to high-end, chic embellishments as seen on Kendall Jenner. This trend is great as it is a quick way to make a look really chic and glamorous."

Make like TOWIE's Lauren Pope with stud plaits, braids with some silver hair rings or go all-out like the Little Mix ladies, with crystals and the addition of cutesy, 90s-inspired velvet bands.

The big bouncy blow-out:

Big bouncy blow-drys with oodles of volume aren't just for Victoria's Secret models, and this year they are going to be back with a bang. "This time with a slightly less pristine twist," says Zoe.

Get the look:

"Tip you hair upside down and blow-dry your hair as normal using the ghd Ceramic Vented Radial Brush in Size 2, £15 to create heaps of volume. Once the hair is dry, spray your hands only with hairspray and rake your fingers through your hair. It'll give it an amazing texture, volume and structure."

'Just One Night' hair:

Not as naughty as it sounds - we promise! "Like Gigi Hadid, a strong advocate of the faux bob, we'll be seeing a lot of celebrities wearing styles that are temporary," says Zoe. "Custom made wigs and hair pieces are becoming much more common and the general public are most certainly going to embrace the look because now, people aren't embarrassed to be seen with faux hair."

Take inspiration from Kylie Jenner advises Zoe! "Weave colours into your own hair and pop on vibrant accessories including fun pompoms." We're also in love with Hair Rehab's extensive range of clip in hair pieces including braids, ponytails and half-wigs, which means we wont have to brave the scissors any time soon - yay!

Soft Pop Colours:

Candy floss tones and washed out colours are going to continue as a prominent trend next year thanks to the likes of Kylie Jenner and Hilary Duff. The trend is becoming much more popular due to celebrity influence in summer months.

"Next year will see a shift away from baby pink and more towards apricot and an infusion of subtler, balmier hues," says Zoe. Caroline Flack gets it, thanks to her love affair with BLEACH London. We're obsessed with the Awkward Peach hue, £5.99, as much as she is.
