We all know how debilitatingly embarrassing an SDA (same dress alert, FYI) can be - especially if you're a celebrity. But when it comes to hair and beauty the rules are totally different...

Yesterday's American Music Awards in Los Angeles saw an amazing three's-a-trend situation as Kendall Jenner, Christina Milian and Chris Brown's former flame Karreuche Tran were spotted rocking strikingly similar hairstyles on the red carpet, prompting us to ask whether their hairstylists were actually in cahoots!

Keeping up with The Kardashians star Kendall who usually wears her locks down and perfectly parted at the centre immediately stole our attention with her twisted topknot and faux fringe combo, courtesy of her hairdresser Jen Atkin.

Anyone else think she looks a tad like mum Kris with the bangs? Just us?!

As Kendall posed her way along the red carpet with younger sister Kylie Jenner, she was outshone by model Karreuche who it seems was rocking the exact same 'do, right down to the edgy, choppy fringe and mussed up bun.

In fact, we almost mistook them for twins! Name badges would have come in handy...

Just when we thought there wasn't enough room for that much sass in one venue, CMTU star Christina Milian stepped out with an almost identical topknot, although she opted out of the bangs boat so that her chiselled features could do all of the talking.

Now, we know a trend when we see one and we're pretty certain this style of bun is set to take the beauty sphere by storm this autumn. So without further ado, here's how you can nab the look in just three simple steps - but be warned, it only really works on longer locks.

1. To start, tip your head upside down and use a paddle brush to scrape your lengths up into a super-high ponytail. Then simply secure with a hairband in a similar colour to your locks and gently brush any knots out.

2. Use one hand to lift the ponytail right up at the ends and wrap the other hand around the base of your ponytail; twist it round and around until it forms a topknot but leave the ends free and pull them to the front.

3. Secure the bun with a hairband. It might look a little strange but the ends should be dangling over your forehead, so take a comb and brush them out, then veil your do with a little hairspray so it doesn't unravel.
