And this week, the trend in question was all about reinventing the classic red lipstick...
Monday night (1 December) saw the British Fashion Awards come to the London Coliseum and, as ever, it was a veritable affair of stylish A-listers looking groomed, glam and gorgeous.
Everyone from Rihanna and Rita Ora to David and Victoria Beckham were there, (mainly dressed in black and white, fyi) and while it was very much a night to celebrate fashion, we couldn't help but notice the fine array of red pouts on show.
Leading the way was model and TV presenter Alexa Chung in a warm red, satin-textured lipstick with a side-parted bob and barely-there make-up. Very classy indeed.
Not far behind her was Kendall Jenner who chose an elegant, slighter darker red lippy which perfectly complemented her dark brows, locks and creamy complexion.
Then there was Lily Allen who did an orange-red lip to match her orange locks; Daisy Lowe, who went for a pillar-box shade and Harry Potter star Emma Watson whose colour-pop pout couldn't have been more matte!
We know, more red lip colours than you could shake a stick at, right?
OK, so red lipstick is not really new news when it comes to beauty trends. But, what we wanted to draw your attention to was the fact that all these lovely ladies are wearing different shades that have been perfectly chosen to suit their hair, eye and skin colour.
They've also all steered clear of gloss, with matte or slightly creamy textures being the key for winter 2015.
And most importantly, check out the rest of their make-up.
What do you see other than good, strong brows and black mascara? Very little, especially when it comes to cheek colours, meaning the lips are the absolute centre of attention.
And this is key. We know it's hard to resist piling on the blusher to give your skin some colour, but a great trick is to apply your lipstick first, then step back and look in the mirror to see if you actually NEED any more colour. Chances are a tiny amount of very subtle blusher will do the trick perfectly well.
A lesson to us all.
