The Destiny's Child starlet has admitted a bad home dye job left her long locks beyond repair, prompting her dramatic switch to a shoulder-length 'do.
Kelly told People she wanted to experiment with her hair colour but made the mistake of not noticing her dye of choice was permanent rather than semi-permanent.
And because she got her dyes mixed up, she ended up leaving the solution on much longer than necessary.
"I ended up keeping it in for almost two hours and the permanent colour ate all of my hair. My hair had grown down to like right where my shoulder hits, it was nice and healthy and thick. I went and reached for the back of my hair and it was all in my hand!" she recalled.
Kelly went on: "So I went to my stylist the next day and said, 'So, my hair's broken off, I need you to fix it.' He was like, 'How did this happen?' and then cut all my hair off and it just turned out really cute. I love it."
Kelly showed off her chic locks and a-mazing figure last week at a glitzy event to announce her as the new face of Caress' Fabulista campaign.
The former X Factor judge looked gorgeous at a photocall in New York on 26 March, where she promoted the new range of Caress Fresh Collection bodywashes.
She said: "As an artist, I am always looking for inspiration and to find the beauty in all that surrounds me. For me, it starts in the shower with a great fragrance that gets me in the right frame of mind and sets the mood for my day."
