Listen up ladies! Today (20th June) is National Kissing Day, and that means one thing to us beauty junkies - it's time to pamper those pouts!
Changes in the weather can leave our lips feeling dry, chapped, and a bit unloved. So it's time to arm yourself with our top tips and spruce up those smackers.
1) Banish the flakes
Start by gently exfoliating your lips to remove any dead skin cells. There are two ways of doing this - either run a soft toothbrush carefully over your pout, or gently smooth on a sugar scrub, such as Lush Lip Scrub £5.25.
2) Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!
It's essential to give your lips a dose of hydration to keep them in tip-top shape. There are tons of moisturising lip balms on the market - we love Carmex Cherry Lip Balm, £2.69, for a cheap and cheerful sheeny lip hit.
If you prefer a totally natural look, try the NUXE Rêve de Miel Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm, £9.50, which leaves a matte finish.
3) Pick your lippy
Now for the exciting part! Pick whichever colour your heart desires - from strawberry red to deep berry crimson, to a just-bitten rosy pink. Apply one layer, then blot your pout on a tissue before applying again.
Can't pick just one? Grab the Lipstick Queen by Poppy King 3 Piece Lip Nouveau Collection, £30.96 from QVC, which features all three colours, and switch up your shade throughout the day.
And lipstick works as a great multi-tasking product too. Poppy King, Lipstick Queen Founder, says: "Once you have chosen your perfect colour, dab some of the same colour lipstick on your cheeks, it really brings the whole look together."
If lipstick application isn't your forte, try the Lord & Berry La Vie en Rose Preference Lipstick Pencils, £8.48, available from Sally Express. They come in a pencil form making them easy to apply and great for on-the-go application.
4) Lacquer on some gloss
Finally, plump up your pout with a slick of lip gloss (take your pick from the bareMinerals 4 Piece Petite Treats Lipgloss Collection, £21 from QVC). Apply all over the lips, or dab a small amount just on the centre of your pout to make it look fuller.
And to help your gloss stay put during your romantic day, take some tips from Sarah Jane Froom, bareMinerals International Make-up Artist, who says: "Buff foundation over your lips to prime them, then apply a lip liner before adding a touch of gloss. It will also really help the colour pop!"
