But are luxe bronzers worth splurging on? Or is there a hidden hero in the bargain aisle?

These oil-absorbing formulas help to prevent shine and are ideal for cheating a natural-looking tan.
YSL Terre Saharienne Matte, £34
It's rare to find a matte bronzer that doesn't mask your natural radiance but this one's nailed it. It gave me that elusive 'lit from within' effect and I was even complimented on my glow. Plus, it comes in three shades.
NYC Big Bold Bronzer, £3.99
This palette certainly lives up to its name – it's huge. But it looked a little patchy and needed a lot of blending.
Best for highlighting and enhancing, these baked designs contain plenty of sparkle.
Beauty UK Baked Box in Goddess, £3.99
A real metallic gold, this isn't for the faint-hearted. But unlike many bargain bronzers I've tried, it's glimmery rather than glittery and looked gorgeous dusted over the highest points of my face.
Laura Mercier Folklore Baked Blush Bronze in Ritual, £23
I love the idea of this blusher meets bronzer but unfortunately the combo of dark brown with pink glitter flecks only worked on the apples of my cheeks.
Designed to create radiance, these contain subtle pearly extracts.
Bourjois Maxi Delight Bronzer, £8.99
I've always been impressed with Bourjois' bronzing line and this newbie wowed me again. The shimmer is light enough to swirl all over your face and the orange undertones really perked up my complexion. A fabulous all-rounder.
MAC Temperature Rising Bronzing Powder, £20
This was such a close contest. I like that this comes in two shades and the limited edition packaging is gorge. But once applied, it's almost identical to the Bourjois version so it's not quite worth spending the extra dosh on this one.
VERDICT: While the priciest of the bunch was pretty amazing, my favourite came in at under a tenner - proving that when it comes to bronzing, you can get a whole lot of bang for your buck.
