She also revealed her fave bargain moisturising cream that's under a fiver... win!

Alexandra Burke steps out at the ITV studios in London, England - 12 June 2014

Talk us through the products in your make-up bag...

"I enjoy using Chanel Vitalumiere Smoothing Fluid Makeup, £36, for foundation, and for powder I tend to go for Bobbi Brown. In the day I don't like to wear make-up if I can help it, but if I have to I'll use Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara, £22.50.

"When I perform, I usually go for Laura Mercier or Bobbi Brown foundations instead because they give more coverage. I put lashes on too, I love Eylure false lashes, and my eyeliner and eyebrow pencil are both by Chanel. At the moment I'm into nude or pink lip colours by NARS or MAC, because every night on The Bodyguard I have to wear red lipstick, so I think I've overworn it now!"

What are your fave bargain beauty buys?

"Nivea Soft Cream, £4.28, I use it on my body. I also love Johnson Face Care Makeup Be Gone Refreshing Wipes, £3.29, I usually use the pink ones."

You've said in the past you used to suffer from pigmentation. Do you feel more confident with your skin now?

"I have phases when I feel great, and then phases when I don't feel so good. I do try to let my skin breathe as much as I can. Now I'm on The Bodyguard, I have to wear make-up every night, so of course I don't wear it in the day and when I get the chance I take it off completely. I have ups and downs about it."

Say you're having a bad skin day and feeling really down, how do you make yourself feel better?

"When a girl feels down, we usually go for ice cream or chocolate, which doesn't really help... although to me it helps! I tend to reach for the bad things life has to offer, so ice cream, chocolate and popcorn!"

Do you like doing your own make-up, or do you prefer someone else doing it for you?

"I do my own make-up quite a lot and it is quite therapeutic, but I prefer it when someone else does it. Then I can just relax."

Have you picked up any top tips from make-up artists?

"I have actually, like when you put your powder on, don't brush it on but dab it on, as this will set your make-up better. Little things like that. For contouring, I definitely haven't mastered it yet, although I've tried! You're meant to use a pointy brush and sweep upwards across your cheekbone. That's how I've learnt to do it."

How has your beauty look changed since winning The X Factor?

"I'm more adventurous now. I never used to wear lip colour but now I definitely would. I even released my own line, Alexandra Burke by MUA Lip Boom, a couple of years ago. I take more risks now."

What make-up looks do you think suit you best?

"The more natural the better, so I've been told. Less is more! That's what people around me say. Never put too much on."

So you don't mind going out with make-up?

"Oh absolutely, I actually prefer going out without it."

You switch up your hair all the time - have you got any plans to change your colour again soon?

"Yes, there's always a plan to change the hair colour, I just don't know when I'll be brave enough to do it! At the moment I don't think I really can because of The Bodyguard, but maybe in the future. I'd like to go dark red or an aubergine colour. I did it once before, it was really nice."

Who are your beauty icons?

"Audrey Hepburn and Naomi Campbell. I love how classic Audrey was, you see a picture to this day and people are still inspired by her. When it comes to Naomi, I like how fiery she is while also being clean-cut and polished. She's still got an edge!"
